Pink Shirt Day 2012

PinkShirtDay.ca

The last Wednesday of February is known as Anti-Bullying Day in Canada. It's also known as "Pink Shirt Day".  Originally started as a protest against a bullying incident at a Nova Scotia high school in 2007, on this day participants are asked to wear pink to symbolize a stand against bullying.  Today Pink Shirt Day not only takes place in Canada but in the US as well as other countries around the world.  We all know that bullying can take place anyplace, anywhere, anytime.  It could be on the school playground, classroom, workplace or home.

Last Fall a group of community members met to form a Coalition to help raise awareness of Pink Shirt Day in our community.   A t-shirt design contest was held in schools across the County of Wetaskiwin, as well as poster and video contest - all to help raise awareness that bullying is not to be tolerated.  On January 30th, the local Grade 9 student design winner from Gwynne School was annouced.    The Boys and Girls Club are proud to be members of the Coalition that also includes Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools, HUB Mental Health Capacity Building Project, City of Wetaskiwin, Town of Millet, and the Wetaskiwin RCMP Detachment.

Pink Shirts are available for $10. each by calling Krystianna at 780-352-4643 ext. 38 or Debbie at 780-352-4643 ext 32 at the Boys and Girls Club.

Also, please go to the Wetaskiwin Pink Shirt Day Facebbok page to show your support, make a comment or add your school or business if you are taking part!

Take a stand today!
